Welcome to BIOMATH 2012

The conference is devoted to recent research in biosciences based on applications of mathematics as well as mathematics applied to or motivated by biological applications. It is a multidisciplinary meeting forum for researchers who develop and apply mathematical and computational tools to the study of phenomena in the broad fields of biology, ecology, medicine, biotechnology, bioengineering, environmental science, etc.

Contributed talks in any of these fields are invited for presentation at the conference. Participants need to submit a one-page abstract indicating clearly the significance of the reported results for the advancement of knowledge in bioscience and/or biotechnology. Accepted presentations shall be published in special issues of relevant journals.

The conference continues a tradition of scientific meetings on Biomathematics held in Sofia since 1995 (see BIOMATH FORUM). It is supported by several research units of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (such as the Institutes of Mathematics and Informatics, Information and Communication Technologies, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Chemical Engineering, Biophysics and Biomedical Engineering, Mechanics, Neurobiology, Biodiversity and Ecosystem Research, etc.) and several Universities (Sofia University "Kl. Ohridski", Plovdiv University "Paisii Hilendarski", South-West University "N. Rilski"), as well as the Union of the Bulgarian Mathematicians.

A special session on 22 June is dedicated to Blagovest Sendov's 80th anniversary.

Conference chairman: Stefan Dodunekov, Institute of Mathematics and Informatics, BAS

Program committee chairman: Blagovest Sendov, Institute of Information and Communication Technologies, BAS
Vice-chairman: Petar Kenderov, Institute of Mathematics and Informatics, BAS

Organizing committee co-chairmen: Roumen Anguelov (University of Pretoria) and Svetoslav Markov (Institute of Mathematics and Informatics, BAS). E-mail addresses:,

BIOMATH School for Young Scientists: 17 June 2012
The school comprises plenary lectures and sessions for contributed talks. The lectures at the school are of more introductory nature giving foundations and insight into the respective topic rather then focusing on new results and are presented by some of the keynote speakers of the conference.
School Coordinators: Svetoslav Markov (Bulgarian Academy of Sciences), Antony Popov (Sofia University)
